DENTAL CARE FOR YOUR PET

February is Dental Care Awareness Month for pets.  At Advanced Veterinary Care (AVC) of San Elijo, we are committed to providing professional dental services for your dog or cat.

To promote dental awareness month, AVC is offering a 10% discount for all dental services performed in
 February and March.

At AVC, we know that your dog or cat is an important member of your family and that keeping them healthy is a priority.  Regular veterinary exams, plenty of exercise, and proper nutrition are all provided to your pet without a second thought.  But what about dental care?  Dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall health and failure to provide proper dental care for your pet can lead to serious and costly health problems and significant discomfort to your beloved pet.

Fortunately, just like in humans, most dental problems can be avoided with proper care.  Periodontal disease is the most common dental condition in dogs and cats.  By the time your pet is three years old, he or she will likely have some evidence of periodontal disease, which will worsen if effective preventive measures are not taken.  Early detection and treatment are critical, since advanced periodontal disease causes severe problems and pain for your pet.  Periodontal disease does not only affect your pet’s mouth, but may compromise their overall health. To prevent and treat dental problems, veterinarians recommend a yearly dental exam and cleaning.

Indicators of a dental problems can include:

  • Bad breath, broken or loose teeth, extra teeth or retained baby teeth, teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar
  • abnormal chewing, drooling, or dropping food from the mouth, reduced appetite or refusal to eat
  • pain in or around the mouth, bleeding from the mouth, and swelling around the mouth

At AVC, our dental packages for cats and dogs include:
Pre-operative bloodwork, anesthesia and monitoring, a detailed dental exam, scaling, cleaning, polishing, a fluoride treatment and dental x-rays. (Please call our office to make an appointment where our doctors and knowledgeable staff will be able to provide you with an estimate tailored for your pet)

Sadly, many wonderful pet owners neglect their pet’s dental care for one reason or another.  If your pet is due, or overdue, for a dental exam and cleaning, take advantage of our 10% off special and book an appointment today.  In addition to the services listed above, our knowledgeable staff will teach you how to care for your pet’s teeth at home, including what treats are best and how to brush your pet’s teeth.  Brushing your pet’s teeth regularly is the most effective way to keep teeth healthy between dental cleanings.  Remember to NEVER use human toothpaste.  Book your appointment today.
